These dowels are infused with nutrients and work much better (faster) than typical mushroom dowels. Proprietary technique gives these a boost of nutrition. Proven strain in Canada, overwinters well in most climates. Cut fresh 4-6" logs and inoculate within 3 weeks of cutting. Do not remove bark. Old logs do not work as they will have other local species of mushrooms competing. Water logs often in the first year (a water timer works best), then bury 2/3 deep in ground in the second year for best results if you live in a drier climate such as the prairie provinces. Mold on the ends of the logs is acceptable throughout the years of growing. Do not allow logs to sit in the hot sun and dry out, wet and shady is ideal. The more water they receive the better they grow, if the logs dry out completely, they will fail.  Oysters work in most hardwoods, however, avoid fruit hardwoods if possible. Best choices for logs are freshly cut Oak, Birches, Maples, Alder, Cottonwoods. Softwoods are not suitable. Drill holes and inoculate no more than 3" apart for best results, especially if inoculating in summer/early fall. Avoid large diameter logs as they can take 4-5 years to fully colonize. The amount of water the logs get is directly proportional to how quickly and how well mushrooms will grow, I cannot stress this enough. 100 dowels will inoculate approximately 2 x 8' logs.
